Most of the Orlando Magic fanbase loves J.J. Redick. Those of us that want the rebuild of this team to be approached from a business perspective instead of an Otis-perspective are generally hoping to get something in return for J.J.’s expiring contract. Redick’s agent is demanding the bid start at $10 million annually for J.J.’s next contract, which would be absurd for a team in the early stages of rebuilding. Most reports agree that Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan is demanding at least a 1st round pick to be included in the deal and that young prospects are the desired return. The trade deadline is tomorrow night, so any movement that is going to take place will have to happen this evening or sometime tomorrow. Turn on your notifications and buckle up; here are the most prevalent J.J. Redick trade rumors from around the league.
J.J. to Milwaukee
According to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger, the Milwaukee Bucks are prepared to shell out a 1st round pick, along with Luc Mbah a Moute in exchange for Redick. The hitch is that Milwaukee wants to dump another shooting guard to make room for Redick and that is what seems to be impeding the deal at the moment.
J.J. to New York
Alex Kennedy reported on HoopsWorld that the New York Knicks were willing to offer a package centered around sophomore guard Iman Shumpert. The salaries wouldn’t match, so other players would have to be added. Some reports are including Steve Novak as part of that potential trade. There haven’t been any mentions of whether or not the Knicks would be willing to part with draft picks to sweeten the pot.
J.J. to Minnesota
This one has been out there for nearly the entire season. The package would center around Derrick Williams. Other pieces would be needed. This deal has been a polarizing subject around the net this year. Some people feel like Williams is just buried behind superstar Kevin Love and that he hasn’t had a chance to prove his worth. Others just consider him to be a bust.
J.J. to Denver
This one just surfaced in the last 24 hours. There are rumors swirling about a possible trade for Corey Brewer and Timofey Mozgov, plus a first round draft pick. Both players are on expiring contracts, which makes this a very safe trade. The thinking is that the Magic could choose whether Gustavo Ayon or Timofey Mozgov would be their backup center moving forward based on the last portion of this season.
J.J. to Chicago
Richard Hamilton, Marco Belinelli, Marquis Teague, and a first-round pick for Ishmael Smith and J.J. Redick is the reported offer coming out of the Windy City. Whether or not this trade is a legitimate possibility or a baseless rumor is tough to say. It can be said that Chicago obviously believes in Redick’s worth, as they made a move to acquire him before, which the Magic matched.
J.J. to Indiana
Personally my least favorite, this trade would consist of D.J. Augustin, Tyler Hansbrough, and Miles Plumlee for Redick and a future second rounder. I’ve read this report on two separate occasions and don’t believe that this would particularly advantageous for the Magic.
There are dozens of other rumors, but these are the only ones I could find to be plausible or credible. It is worth mentioning that Memphis is in the mix, according to ESPN’s Chris Vernon, but no specific details have emerged in that trade scenario.
